BLS for Healthcare Providers

Basic Life Support

is designed to reinforce healthcare professionals’ understanding of the importance of early CPR and defibrillation, basic steps of performing CPR, relieving choking, and using an AED; and the role of each link in the Chain of Survival.  This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

West Volusia CPR, LLC offers BLS certification training using an instructor-led classroom OR American Heart Association’s innovative blended learning format. (See below for more details) 

WHO TYPICALLY TAKES THIS COURSE:

  • Hospital Personnel including but not limited to: Doctors, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Certified Nurse Assistants, Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapists, Physician Assistants, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Paramedics/EMTs
  • Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants
  • Students of Health-Related Studies (i.e. Nursing, Pre-Med, Pre-Pharm, etc.)

AFTER SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE BLS COURSE, STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO:

  • Describe the importance of high-quality CPR and its impact on survival
  • Describe all of the steps of the Chain of Survival and apply its BLS concepts
  • Recognize the signs of someone needing CPR
  • Perform high-quality CPR on adults, children, and infants
  • List Describe the importance of early AED use and demonstrate using one#1
  • Provide effective ventilations with a barrier device
  • Describe the importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and perform as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
  • Describe the technique for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants.

CLASSROOM BASED LEARNING

Classroom-based Learning is entirely Instructor-led. Students complete the entire course in one video-based session with an instructor, which covers content, skills practice and testing.

1. Hands-on instruction with an American Heart Association Instructor allows students to practice skills and ask questions throughout the course.

2. Students complete their training in a single convenient session.

3. Ideal for students with limited access to technology.

BLENDED/ONLINE LEARNING

Blended learning** combines self-paced online training with an Instructor-led classroom session. Students first learn the course content online using HeartCode BLS. After passing the included online exam, they attend an Instructor-led, video-based classroom portion focused on skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing.

1. The online portion allows students to complete exercises and learn at their own pace.

2. The classroom portion allows time for practice and discussion.

3. Students have access to HeartCode BLS for 24 months after activation, allowing them to revisit simulations and videos after they complete the course.

**Be advised, this option is only to be selected for students who HAVE NOT already purchased and/or completed the Heartcode BLS course and simply require a Skills Session to validate their BLS Skills.  All transactions that involve the purhcase of DIGITAL CONTENT, such as Course Access Keys, are NON-REFUNDABLE.

Format:  Part Online with In-Person Skills Session
